Salomon is looking to make another hit out of an XT sneaker, this time reviving and retooling a women’s trail runner from 2000.
The Salmon XT-Whisper will make its return this week with a dazzling combination of green and yellow dubbed “Treetop and Wren.” Featuring a combination of mesh and synthetic leather that’s a trademark of the aughts, the upper starts with a green base. The overlays then appear in brown, as well as a highlighter yellow with the reflective silver detailing that’s been readopted to much fanfare today.
Now oriented toward lifestyle rather than running, the XT-Whisper has had its harder lines softened in a bid for broad appeal across genders. It also maintains its original Quicklace system while adding the newer Sensifit technology for comfort and security. Underfoot then sits a Agile Chassis and Energy Cell midsole, OrthoLite insole and Contagrip outsole. The plush sockliner, too, has been provided by OrthoLite.
Salomon originally introduced the XT-Whisper as a women’s version of the XT-Hawk, and when the XT-Whisper 2 came a decade later in 2010, the company touted it as the lightest training shoe on the market. Its return now comes after the XT-6, which debuted in 2013, has been one of the leading models for the outdoor sneaker trend.
The Salamon XT-Whisper in “Treetop and Wren” will release Tuesday, December 10, through Salomon’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $140.
