Tyla brought her effortlessly cool style to a taping of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in Burbank, Calif. on Tuesday. Sitting down with the Hudson, the breakout singer touched on performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, her 2024 Met Gala look, and more.
Talking about her performance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last fall, she shared that the producers let her pick out whatever wings she wanted. “It was literally the most fun I’ve had performing,” she added. The “Push 2 Start” songstress sported crystalized René Caovilla sandals on the hot pink on the catwalk.
Tyla donned a faded black boiler suit with the zipper closure unzipped to her navel for the daytime talk show appearance. She styled the intentionally distressed one-piece featuring cargo pant pockets with Isabel Marant’s iconic Beckett sneakers.
The black high-top sneakers feature velcro straps and a signature concealed wedge design. Crafted in premium suede and leather, the puffy-tongued style retails at $745 and also comes in taupe and ecru versions. The hit silhouette was worn by Beyonce in her “Love on Top” music video in 2011, the same year the wedge sneakers launched.
The South African sensation accessorized her look with a smattering of eye-catching jewelry. Discussing her viral sand sculpture dress from last year’s Met Gala, she revealed that moving around in the Balmain look was next to impossible. “I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t even breathe like half the time. It took me like three men to walk me everywhere, like to get a drink. It was dramatic.”
The “Water” hitmaker revealed that Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing eventually cut the dress so she could move around the event freely. “Then I was loose and I was able to get down,” she said, with a suggestive shake of her shoulders, clearly signifying that she could dance. When Hudson asked about her forthcoming Met Gala look, she only revealed, “It’s gonna be hot.”
Tyla was named a member of the 2025 Met Gala Host Committee, joining Regina King, Simone Biles, Ayo Edebiri, Angel Reese, Usher, Spike Lee, and more. It was also announced last week that she inked an endorsement deal with Nike. Other artists to collaborate with the Swoosh include Travis Scott, Billie Eilish, and Drake. Speaking to Clash Music magazine, the Johannesburg native shared her excitement about the new partnership.
“I’m a Nike girl. I love the brand. Nike isn’t just athletic clothes, it’s fashion. I really like that because when I wear Nike, it doesn’t feel like I’m just putting on a shoe or shirt. You feel fly wearing it,” she told the publication.
