Dsquared2‘s iconic Skate boots are back by popular demand for a limited-edition reissue.

Inspired by the brand’s founders Dean and Dan Caten’s childhood love of figure skating in their home of Canada, the Skate silhouette will be re-released for Dsquared2’s fall 2025 collection in an “Off White” colorway in honor of the brand’s 30th anniversary.

Dubbed the “Skate Moss” shoe by fans, the style reimagines traditional ice skates as a razor-sharp stiletto boot fixed with lace-up closures and shining metallic “blades” for soles. The boots are currently available for pre-order via Dsquared2’s website retailing for $3,190.00.

The iconic silhouette debuted during the brand’s fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection, set against the backdrop of winter weather, covered wagons and Western frontiers. Models were outfitted in leather dusters, maximalist furs and frayed jeans paired with gaudy ten-gallon hats that fit the theme to a tee. Ready to combat the winter weather, many models stormed down the runway in the “Skate Moss” boot in varying heights and colorways.

The hype around the shoe is never-ending, however, the Skate style has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity as of late, thanks in part to celebrities like Julia Fox and Mariah the Scientist who recently wore the coveted style during a talk show appearance and basketball game respectively.

Dsquared2 recognized the popularity of the Skate silhouette in a post made to TikTok on Jan. 19 where the designer brother duo unearthed the shoe from their archives to strut around in. Before the re-launch, the Skate style could only be sought out for big bucks on resale sites like EBay, Grailed, Farfetch, The Real Real and 1stDibs.

Founded in Canada and based in Italy, Dsquared2 was launched in 1995 by identical twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten. The brand is best known for its unique men’s and women’s apparel, cosmetics, footwear and fragrances that focus on sporty, campy and glamorous motifs.

Scarosso’s New Collection Aims to Reach the Modern Bride https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/scarosso-launches-bridal-shoe-collection-1234770189/ Tue, 18 Feb 2025 17:42:24 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234770189 Ahead of the busy wedding season this spring, Scarosso is dipping its toes into the bridal shoe market.

The Italian footwear brand has launched the “Bridal Not Bridal – Scarosso Yes I Do” bridal footwear capsule collection featuring pumps, sandals and flats. The company said the collection “breaks away from traditional wedding shoe conventions” and aims to offer styles that “seamlessly transition beyond the big day” in the hopes of capturing modern brides looking for something different.

The new collection is crafted in Italy and features three key styles, each in multiple variations. The line’s pumps, which come in a 9 centimeter heel height, are available in three versions – a while plain satin, a white plain satin with a rhinestone accessory on the upper, and a white satin with crystal embellishments.

As for the sandal, there is one refined single version in white satin with a silver detail on the front lace that features a 8.5 cm heel height. There are three versions of the flats, however, including a white plain satin model, a white satin with a rhinestone accessory on the upper, and a white satin with crystal embellishment.

Scarosso’s move into bridal comes as the footwear company continues to try out new categories. In 2023, the company launched kids’ shoes for the first time.

The Italian brand has also doubled down on its collaborations. In November, Scarosso launched a tie-up with Los Angeles-based Italian actress, model and digital influencer Marta Pozzan for a high-glamour capsule collection.

Collaborations will continue to play a pivotal role in the process of expanding its reach in the U.S. “Since the beginning, we’ve always sought to establish a strong connection with the U.S., and all our collaborations reflect this, from Brian Atwood and Nick Wooster to Linda Rodin, Warren Alfie Baker, and Matt Hranek, each partnership has deepened our ties to the States,” Scarosso’s brand manager Gaetano D’Angiulli told FN sister publication WWD in November.

The new Bridal Not Bridal – Scarosso Yes I Do capsule, which retails between $370 and $570, is now available exclusively on scarosso.com.

The coveted Dsquared2 Skate Moss boots first launched on the Fall/Winter 2011 runway and instantly became an hit for its unique design. The shoe resembles an ice skate after co-founders Dean and Dan Caten were inspired by their childhood love of figure skating in their home of Canada. Now it’s back by popular demand.

The limited-edition reissue comes as part of the Dsquared2 30th anniversary and its Fall/Winter 2025 collection. The made-in-Italy leather shoe can be seen in a snow-white colorway and sits atop a platform. It retails for $3,190 on Dsquared.com.

When the shoes were originally released in 2011 they were priced from $1,485 to $1,895 at retail.

Most recently, the Skate Moss boot has had a bit of a resurgence with the likes of Mariah the Scientist and Julia Fox bringing back the shoe. Fox wore them while promoting her upcoming film “Presence” on an episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” last month, for instance.

Featuring both black and white as well as color photographs, the campaign was photographed by Henrik Purienne in Paris. The collection includes a nude-effect sandal, a slingback, a hand-woven Intriigo and a flat. The designer, who marked his 30th anniversary in 2024, has been going back to his roots in recent seasons, focusing on elegant, wearable styles that are versatile and focus on key silhouettes.

Celebrities also help to keep the Zanotti label buzzy, with SZA and Taylor Swift among the stars who have donned shoes from the company lately. SZA wore a well-known sandal style featuring a fishbone design to the Grammys this month while Swift has cheered on Travis Kelce at Chiefs games this past NFL season in over-the-knee boots — in both burgundy and black. Not to mention, the brand also collaborated with Mary J. Blige, avowed boot lover, to create a slouchy over-the-knee boot in rose gold and white.

TikTok Star Nara Smith Fronts Amina Muaddi’s New Campaign Ad for Summer 2025 https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/nara-smith-amina-muaddi-campaign-summer-2025-1234768368/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 17:47:54 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234768368 All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. Amina Muaddi has tapped Nara Smith to star in a new campaign teasing her summer 2025 collection.

In a video posted to @aminamuaddiofficial and @aminamuaddi on social media, the model is shown wearing a pair of black sandals with a minimalist silhouette featuring a horizontal toe strap and an ankle strap with a T-shaped design in the back. While the silhouette is simple, the shoes nevertheless make a strong statement with sparkling crystal embellishments across the straps.

Wearing the the bejeweled shoes, which are lifted up by a recognizable hourglass-shaped heel, Smith steps on a myriad of containers, which causes viscous substances resembling paint and condiments to loudly squeeze out of those receptacles. The caption for the video reads, “TOMORROW. 3PM CET. AMINAMUADDI.COM.” Muaddi herself commented on the video, “READY FOR A SAUCY SUMMER.”

The ad is perhaps a nod to Smith’s social media presence, in which she’s known to use a soft ASMR-style voice as she shows herself making a range of things from scratch. She previously starred in a Marc Jacobs ad in which she makes a red version of The Tote Bag from the brand “from scratch” using baking ingredients.

After Debuting His Vintage-Inspired Fall 2025 Collection, Jonathan Simkhai Reveals That Shoes Are His Fastest Growing Category https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/simkhai-fall-2025-shoes-distressed-motorcycle-boots-slingback-mules-1234767564/ Mon, 10 Feb 2025 18:57:45 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234767564 Simkhai’s fall/winter 2025 collection draws inspiration from a chance find while shopping the Rose Bowl flea market in Los Angeles.

According to the collection’s show notes, designer Jonathan Simkhai “came across an antique brooch from the 1920s and imagined the hands and lives that the brooch touched throughout the decades.”

Indeed, this vintage and antique theme is central this season’s inspiration – all the way down to the shoes. This season’s footwear range features a slingback mule from spring which has been reimagined in new finishes, with worn leather details mirroring details from the jackets. Boots were also seen in distressed leather, embellished with a buckle, in a motorcycle silhouette.

In an interview with Simkhai backstage just after his show on Friday, the designer also spoke about his love of embellishments seen throughout his collection. “My grandfather had a lace and embroidery mill in Iran in the ‘70s,” the designer told FN. “I found that out after I started the business, so as we evolved the brand and learned about the lace and the embroideries, we started to incorporate them more into the ready-to-wear. And now it’s in the handbags and footwear as well.”

But as for his best-selling shoes, Simkhai noted that boots are his hottest category within the footwear assortment and this season definitely showed the emphasis on silhouette.

Boots have been a really promising classification for us,” Simkhai said. “We’re seeing styles like day boots, but also dressier boots with point issues and also rounder toes, perform well.”

And for the shoe category overall, Simkhai said that footwear is his fastest growing segment right now. “Shoes have seen our highest percentage growth as a category,” he said. “We are obviously still in the growing phase, but it’s growing very fast. And we’re seeing really strong sellers.”

Simkhai, shoes, heels, slingbacks, moto boots, boots, motorcycle boots, fall 2025, Jonathan Simkhai

The category, which first launched at the end of 2021 for the spring 2022 season, was introduced with ten styles, and each came in multiple colorways. Simkhai noted that his brand’s women’s shoes can be found at Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Revolve, Saks, Fwrd, Moda Operandi, Shopbop, and his own retail shops.

“I always love to give something an extra detail, or a reason to stand out,” Simkhai said. “But it’s so funny, because our cleanest looking things are just the most practical and wearable and sell the best. And shoes are such a great thing, because you always need a good shoe, even if you have nowhere to go.”

Marc Jacobs Goes Wild With Wacky Spring ’25 Shoes — From Horned Boots to Elongated Satin Pumps https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/marc-jacobs-spring-2025-shoes-boots-1234764978/ Tue, 04 Feb 2025 17:11:58 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234764978 Marc Jacobs continues to play with proportions, inflating and exaggerating silhouettes with a sense of wackiness in his latest collection.

The designer unofficially kicked off New York Fashion Week with his spring 2025 show at the New York Public Library, where he also showed last season. Tracee Ellis Ross, Nara Smith, Lisa Rinna, Nicky Hilton and Sofia Coppola were among the guests at the show, an evolution from fall. The models walked down the runway in inflated, stiff, doll-like dresses with bulbous dimensions. The contorted silhouettes even made it in to the designs of the collection’s shoes.

While Jacobs’ most famous shoe today is undoubtedly his Kiki boot — that style, which was first introduced in 2016, was worn on the front row by Nicky Hilton, Prya Shukla and Meredith Duxby — he offered another boot this season. This one was an imposing, nearly knee-high black boot. With a curved heel on the back, the platform shoe measures at least six inches high. The front features a curved horn of sorts.

The pointed and upturned front is a shape Jacobs has been experimenting with for seasons: in spring 2024 he designed a series of satin shoes that closed his show and featured a demure version of the silhouette. By fall 2024 this had been inflated as a pair of pumps in a variety of colors — this season Tracee Ellis Ross wore that version on the front row — as well as slippers. Now, the designer has put forth the most extreme option.

Backstage at the Marc Jacobs Fall RTW 2025 fashion show as part of New York Fashion Week at New York Public Library on February 03, 2025 in New York, New York.

That wasn’t the only footwear style that saw distortion. Jacobs took his satin pumps from the collection, with their square-cut vamps, and elongated the toe. The result added a clownish aspect, with the shoe protruding out about four inches beyond the bow at the top of the vamp and ending in a flat front.

For the third footwear design of the collection, Jacobs revisited the bulbous Mary Jane heels of spring 2024. He inflated the already-inflated shoe, turning it into a pump with a sculpted heel. The toe box raises up, almost covering the entire foot from the front view.

This collection was titled “Courage.” In show notes, Jacobs is quoted as saying “Fear is not my enemy — it is a necessary companion to creativity, authenticity, integrity and life.”

In true Marc Jacobs fashion, the American designer went bigger and bolder with this collection. A slew of campy, outsized footwear silhouettes were seen at the event — including pumps with hyper-elongated toes, platform boots with convex shafts and pointy, upturned toes, and pumps with bulbous toes.

Breaking Down the Differences Between Christian Louboutin’s New Miss Z and the Iconic So Kate Heel https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/christian-louboutin-miss-z-so-kate-heel-shoe-comparison-1234764505/ Mon, 03 Feb 2025 21:21:27 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234764505 Though Christian Louboutin is already a staple of the high fashion footwear market, the brand isn’t resting on its laurels. Over the past few months, the luxury footwear brand has been enjoying acclaim on TikTok for its ballet pointe-shoe inspired Cassia heel, a lace-up style that has been selling out. And more recently they even launched the O Condora, an open-toe slingback style featuring the typical Condora beveled heel. But, the new style that’s gotten the most buzz is the new Miss Z series.

Louboutin introduced its Miss Z series in September at the brand’s presentation in Paris. For that outing, they dressed synchronized swimmers in the heel and had them perform wearing the new design. The shoe immediately became a topic of speculation as many wondered if it was named for Zendaya. The actress has not worked with the brand in any official capacity but in 2024 routinely made headlines for wearing the brand’s So Kate heel. According to a statement sent to Footwear News though, the Miss Z is inspired by Gen Z.

But as Louboutin’s newest pointed-toe pump, how does the new Miss Z compare to the So Kate?

Christian Louboutin’s So Kate pump in black patent leather.

The So Kate is less expensive than the Miss Z.

If you’re buying them as-is, the Christian Louboutin So Kate is $795. The new Miss Z style is $895. In addition, at this moment, there is no 120mm version of the Miss Z.

The Miss Z in black.Christian Louboutin

The toe box of the Miss Z is wider than the So Kate

Though there is a mule sandal in the Miss Z series, most of the focus is on the pump silhouette. In comparison with the So Kate, the Miss Z sports a wider toe box. This design change not only will likely make the shoe more comfortable for So Kate fanatics but also those who haven’t worn the style because it is too narrow.

It’s important to note that the So Kate and Kate pumps are modified versions of the first iconic Louboutin pump, the Pigalle. The modifications were done according to the foot of the namesake Kate Moss which included a tweaked toe box. The new Miss Z measurements offer a more egalitarian option.

For years, the So Kate has been renowned for its uncompromising nature. Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, has called it “one of the most painful” shoes on the market. Tracee Ellis Ross, another noted fan, has said it is “a torture device; that’s not a shoe.” This is due to the heel’s design which is a single sole heel with no padding balanced on a 120mm heel — some choose to opt for the Kate which provides shorter heights. The sole of the Miss Z addresses this, featuring full padding as a reprieve of sorts.

The Miss Z heel is curvier and appears taller than it is.

The Miss Z stiletto heel has two significant differences from the So Kate. Its largest difference includes the red at the top, which makes the heel appear both taller and thinner than it actually is. In addition, the curve of the stiletto is much more pronounced than that of the So Kate.

As of now, the Miss Z heel starts at 60mm and only goes up to 100mm, though a 120mm option is expected.

The Miss Z has a rubberized, no-scuff sole.

A few months ago, users on TikTok went viral after discovering that the famous lacquered soles of their Christian Louboutin heels scuffed and peeled if they were not treated. While the company offers the service in-house, they complained that Louboutin styles should come already treated. The Miss Z introduces the company’s answer: an “everlasting sole.” The sole of the Miss Z features thermoplastic polyurethane injected into the parts of the sole that touch the ground. This not only provides durability but includes an ant-slip grip.

That said, to have the So Kate treated for its sole to have longevity, the all-in price will be almost equivalent to the price of the Miss Z.

Zendaya is seen at "Good Morning America" on April 23 in New York City.
